Do you like spending time outside? For some, this comes naturally. Or, maybe your work or hobbies take you outside. I’ve played golf my entire life, but besides that I hadn’t given too much thought to spending time in the great outdoors—until moving to Colorado almost 5 years ago. Having Rue of course (our Yorkie), we’ve always taken walks together, but looking back I don’t believe I was as mindful as I should have been about the many benefits of time in the great outdoors. No matter where you live, the simplest time spent in the great outdoors is a wonderful way to recharge your soul. What do I mean by simple? I mean that you don’t have to do anything crazy or extravagant—you could sit on your porch or deck and just be, or sit outside and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea, or take a short walk. Whatever it is, I’ve learned it’s just important that you take the time to do it.
My life in Colorado does involve many big adventures, and I LOVE that—but what I’m focusing on daily and weekly right now are the simple moments I can spend outside. And for me, this is as simple as enjoying a cup of coffee on the deck or reading/writing outside. I did used to only focus on the big adventures, and frankly I’ve missed a lot of joyous, simple, and peaceful moments that could have happened with some intentional headspace outdoors. I’m also intentionally and mindfully enjoying every single moment of a walk with Rue nowadays. This isn’t a chore to check off a list, or something that must be done, but instead these are beautiful moments I never want to take for granted, the simplest joys in the great outdoors with her. I think that spending time in the great outdoors can help you cultivate more peace and stillness in your life.
It’s far too easy to get bombarded with the never-ending to-do lists and tasks that each week brings. But how would we feel if we took the time to be a bit more mindful and to connect outside? I don’t think anyone would argue that time spent outside isn’t healthy for us all—it’s just making the time right? Well, it’s a matter of choice then. Find little pockets during your days or weeks that you can spend some time in the great outdoors. Whatever that looks like for you, I’m know it will be beneficial.
Remember to LIVE your ADVENTURE.
See you later Going Further Fam! ✌️
