Complaining Is the Worst: Choose Gratitude Instead

Complaining is the worst, and gratitude is the antidote to this. So choose gratitude instead. The majority of people on this planet are lacking in gratitude. This may be a bold statement, but it’s the truth. All you have to do is listen, and you’ll hear plenty of complaints and not many statements of gratitude. We need a wake-up call. Somehow we’ve become a society that takes so much for granted. Gratitude may not come easy, but it is a mindset you can work on, and choose to adopt. Yes, gratitude is completely your choice.

I now embody gratitude. It’s ingrained in me. It’s a part of who I am, but this wasn’t always the case. A few years ago I decided to really work on it. It took a lot of inner work and looking inside myself, and now I am so grateful to have this headspace that I do (this headspace that I’ve chosen). Gratitude has become one of my top values. It’s just that important.

So why is complaining the worst? Complaining makes sure that you’re taking life for granted. Complaining allows you to miss things—big, small, and important. Complaining is suffocating, but being grateful is freeing. You’ll never be happy, have joy, or find peace if you’re always complaining.

How can you be more grateful? I think it starts with the littlest things in your life. Gratitude for the day should begin the moment you wake up. Because you woke up today, another day that was never guaranteed. It doesn’t matter what the day will bring, your to-do list, or if you’re tired. If you woke up—may your gratitude start there.

Some people believe in a gratitude journal. I say do whatever you need to do to train and change your brain to have gratitude first thing in mind—ALWAYS. I think gratitude is like a muscle, you must exercise it. Whenever you catch yourself complaining, start being grateful. It shouldn’t be complicated, so don’t overcomplicate it. I believe that gratitude can be life-changing, which is why I talk about it so frequently.

What’s helped me find my place of gratitude the most is pondering over the fact that we are all on planet Earth, and we don’t know for how long. We’re not all guaranteed to live to 100. We’re definitely all guaranteed to experience plenty of hardships along our journey though. We can plan and prepare, but we all don’t know exactly how our lives will unfold. A lot of life is a mystery and unknown. To me, this is what makes the sunrises and sunsets so beautiful and that first cup of coffee in the morning. It’s what makes every tree just delightful.

I don’t want to live my life with past regrets, wishing that I would have been more grateful in the present. That’s why I’m so passionate about choosing gratitude DAILY. Choosing gratitude means you’re soaking it all up, even the littlest moments of your life. I challenge you to recognize that complaining really is the worst. And that when it comes to gratitude, you have a choice. So are you going to be more grateful starting today?
