It’s been a while since I’ve written about my take on Mondays. I might start sharing my views on this day of the week more often because maybe it’s one way I can change the world. This might sound bold or even cheesy, but I mean it. Mondays signal the beginning of a new week, a new week that was never guaranteed for any of us to begin with. So why can’t we just be grateful for Mondays?
Well, the world tells us not to be. The message about Mondays blasted on a loudspeaker for us all is that we should hate this day of the week. There’s no room for any amount of gratitude on Mondays. This message is rooted in living for the weekends. We’re supposed to hate Mondays and thank God for Fridays. Living for the weekend is the norm, the way life is supposed to be, and being happy on Mondays is not.
If you wondered, I strongly disagree with this. My opinion is that it’s a slippery slope if we allow ourselves to be so negative on Mondays. I believe it trickles into other areas of our life, possibly every other area of our life. We might think it doesn’t matter, but allowing ourselves to be so negative about a day of the week probably means we aren’t very grateful. To let a day of the week dictate our mood, our feelings, our everything means we have no control over our mood, feelings, or even emotions. This is not a healthy way to be, sorry but it’s the truth.
If you woke up today and you didn’t even know that it was Monday, would you feel different? I think so. So many of us are missing life. We’re completely missing it. The beauty of it all, and how not one single moment or future day on Earth is guaranteed.
If you woke up today a little tired, that’s fine. If you didn’t jump out of bed singing, that’s fine. But what’s not fine is hating every moment of your Monday morning and entire day.
If you’re someone who has an ugly mindset on Monday, I can’t fix it for you. I can give you my perspective though, and it is all centered around gratitude. Can you be grateful for your first sip of coffee? For the sunshine? For the opportunity to become 1% better today? If you’re not happy with your life, can you find the courage to choose something different? Can you remind yourself that there are people whose time on Earth ran out this weekend, and they’re no longer here to greet another Monday? But you are. So you have a choice. What are you going to do with it?
Mondays matter more than you think. I have zero time or room in my life for any amount of negativity centered around this day of the week. I LOVE that I am not the norm. I LOVE that I wake up on Mondays and I’m immensely filled with gratitude for the breath that’s in my lungs, and for the opportunities that I have. It does not matter if my Monday is a regular, ordinary day. Spoiler alert—so much of our life is spent in the regular, ordinary days.
Awesome commentary on Mondays, Demie! I totally agree. I have learned to love Mondays. If I can get into the office a little early on a Monday, I can get a jump start on some things that used to make me a bit stressed or that made me feel like I was getting behind someway. That is how I have been able to turn around my take on Mondays and how I get a great start to my week. To me it feels like a productive Monday sets the tone for an overall productive week.
Thank you for commenting! Love it! I agree. I think we can have a negative view on Mondays, or we can take a proactive approach and be productive and take full ownership over our day and our week. Yes!
