The Pursuit Of Our Dreams

Dreams take work. Dreams also take a lot of courage, and even more action. A lot of us have dreams that have gone dormant. Why? I don’t think it’s because we don’t want them. I think it’s because something gets lost between us first dreaming our dreams, and the actual pursuit of those dreams.

The pursuit is where it’s at—where everything happens. And as I’ve learned from Gary Vee, we must enjoy the process of it all. I think we often overestimate the happiness we will feel when we get to some sort of achievement. But according to Gary Vee, it’s not about that moment of achievement of finally reaching our dreams. It’s all about the process. We must enjoy the journey of it all.

I haven’t always enjoyed the process. I’ve told myself that I would be happy when… more times than I can count. Whenever I reached that achievement or milestone in life, I was puzzled to realize I wasn’t suddenly 10x happier. Had I gotten the pursuit of dreams all wrong? Yes, I had.

I now embrace the pursuit of my dreams. Not unlike anyone else, I’ve got a lot of dreams for myself and my life. And I’m working on closing the gap between dreaming those dreams and actually doing the right things to further myself along the journey of pursuing them. That’s the missing piece that so many of us need to find. Are we just dreaming about our dreams? Or are we actually in active pursuit of them?

So I ask you, are you going further toward your dreams? Or do you need to just start? I often remind myself that small steps add up to big progress. Where’s your calendar or planner? Show me where you’ve allotted time in your life for this active pursuit of your dreams. I think this is a critical piece of advice. If you write down when you’re working, going grocery shopping, or have some appointment—you also need to write down when you’re taking action toward your dreams. Otherwise what happens is another 6 months passes you by, then a year, and then possibly multiple years and you still haven’t done it. Or worse, you haven’t done much of anything toward your dreams.

Your dreams matter. Maybe you need to be reminded of this. Your dreams are yours for a reason, and I believe that if we pay attention to our dreams we can learn so much about our truest selves and what possibly our great purpose on Earth is. Have the courage to pursuit your dreams, and then Start Going Forward toward them.
