- Greenlights by Matthew McConaughey
I’ve admired Matthew McConaughey for a long time, less for his acting roles and more for who he is as a person. McConaughey describes this book as a “love letter to life”. At 50 years old, he shares his wisdom and insights and most importantly how we can all get more “greenlights”. - The Tapping Solution: A Revolutionary System for Stress-Free Living by Nick Ortner
Through trainings of Brendon Bruchard, I’ve listened to Nick and Alex Ortner speak-two brothers who are leaders in the area of tapping. “Tapping, also known as EFT (Emotional Freedom Technique), is a powerful stress relief technique. Tapping is based on the combined principles of ancient Chinese acupressure and modern psychology.” - A Year to Live by Stephen Levine
I discovered this book through a yoga/meditation workshop I was going to attend but didn’t. I was instantly intrigued, and added it to my list of books to read. If we all had our mortality right in front of us, really sitting with it, I believe we would act completely different. Life is short, and I want to live that way. - The Four Agreements by Don Miguel Ruiz
I found this book during my AmeriCorps VISTA year. Based on ancient Toltec wisdom, this book reveals the source of self-limiting beliefs. The four agreements are: be impeccable with your word, don’t take anything personally, don’t make assumptions, and always do your best. - Feeling Good-The New Mood Therapy by Dr. David Burns
This book was recommended to me my Freshman year of college, and I still have yet to read it. I’ve spent my entire life loving psychology, 5 years studying it, earned 2 degrees, so it really is a book right up my alley you could say. It is a really practical guide based on psychological science.
What are you looking forward to reading in 2021? I believe that a simple way we can all grow and learn is by choosing to read more. I’ve got the ambitious goal of reading 50 books this year. I know the wisdom, knowledge, and insight that I’ve gained from intentionally reading and keeping track of what I’ve read/want to read has been truly invaluable. Reading is a commitment to myself that has already paid dividends.
